The Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network (SPARTAN) is a network of health care professionals in North America who are dedicated to research, awareness and treatment of spondyloarthritis. SPARTAN is funded through educational grants and sponsorships from companies with an interest in this area of medicine.

SPARTAN is pleased to announce its 9th Annual Research and Education meeting, in conjunction with the Pan-American League of Associations of Rheumatologists (PANLAR) and SPARCC, which will be held July 29 and July 30, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. The 9th Annual Research & Education Meeting promises to be a diverse and rewarding experience for all attendees. Registration is open to SPARTAN Members and invited guests.

SPARTAN holds an annual meeting each year to highlight advances in spondyloarthritis research and treatment and encourage post-doctoral fellows to engage in the SPARTAN mission of fostering research and education in the field of spondyloarthritis (SpA). The Research and Education Meeting is an opportunity to bring together expert, dedicated researchers to address the following unmet medical needs in the field of SpA research and therapy, such as:

• Epidemiology of AS and SpA Worldwide and in the United States
• Research into the genetic associations between AS/SpA and prevalence, severity and disease outcome
• Updating and refining diagnostic and outcome measures for epidemiologic, clinical, and other research needs
• Defining the impact of AS/SpA on society and on the individual patient with the disease
• Discussion of current and future status of biologic therapies of AS/SpA.

The meeting is attended by a network of health care professionals and leaders in the industry as well as SPARTAN members throughout North America, PANLAR members from the Latin American countries, Canadian, and local rheumatologists.
